Duke Senior is not dead but his kiding out in the Forest of Arden with a band of loyal supporters but his daughter, Rosalind, stays behind to remain at court.

Also in this play are two other brothers, Orlando and Oliver de Boys who hate eachother.

In fact they hate eachother so much that when Orlando enters a wrestling match put on by Duke Frederick, Oliver tells the other wrestler to break Orlando's neck but to everyone's surprise Orlando is the victor, which attracts the attention of the very beautiful Rosalind. This makes Oliver hate his brother even more.

Fearing for his life Orlando hastens into Arden with his faithful servant Adam. Oliver gives chase and Duke Frederick banishes Rosalind to Arden as he did with her father. Duke Frederick's daughter is also Rosalind's bestfriend so she travels with Rosalind as well as a clown named Touchstone. Rosalind disguises herself as a boy named Ganymede and Celia will pretend to be Ganymede's sister, Aliena.

Orlando hooks up with Duke Senior's men but misses his Rosalind. In the meantime, Ganymede has purchased a flock of sheep and a pasture and is determined to live a pastoral life but Ganymede/Rosalind is tipped off that Orlando is close by and still alive because she keeps finding carved love poems in the trees about her. So disguised as Ganymede, Rosalind promises to cure Orlando's heartache by letting him pour his feelings out to Ganymede. Orlando does so and Rosalind falls even more in love.

While disguised as Ganymede, Rosalind also attempts but fails to set up Silvius and Phebe but Phebe falls in love with Ganymede. Adding to the romance Touchstone begins to woo a girl named Audrey.

The ending of this tale begins with a resolution between brothers Oliver and Orlando. Orlando saves Oliver from a lion attack when he first enters Duke Senior's camp and they reconcile. While at the camp, Oliver meets and falls in love with Celia and Duke Senior promises to marry them the next day.

Rosalind and Phebe talk and Rosalind makes Phebe promise that if she can't have Ganymede she will marry Silvius. Rosalind disguised as Ganymede then tells Orlando that Rosalind will marry him the next day as well.

While everyone is gathered for the weddings, Rosalind reveals to everyone that Ganymede was really herself in disguise.

Orlando and Rosalind, Phebe and Silvius, Audrey and Touchstone and Oliver and Celia all get married.

For a final happiness to bring into the happy ending, a third de Boys brother, named Jaque finds his brothers Orlando and Oliver and brings news that Duke Frederick has repented his ways and has restored Duke Senior's throne upon meeting a holy man. Apparently Duke Frederick has chosen to lead a monastic life.
